Diploma in Language Studies for Teachers
The DLST is a post-baccalaureate program that aims to upgrade and update the knowledge and competencies of language and reading teachers. It is designed for teachers whose undergraduate training was not in English studies (including literature) or reading or language education.Objectives
The program aims to:- Develop more qualified and highly-trained teachers of language and reading at all levels;
- Enable elementary and high school teachers as well as teacher educators to upgrade their knowledge and competencies in language and reading instruction;
- Provide continuing education for teachers who do not have the proper background and training but are assigned to teach language and reading;
- Equip school administrators, school supervisors, and literacy trainors with the knowledge and competencies in organizing, implementing, and evaluating school and community-based language and literacy programs; and
- Enable curriculum developers and textbook writers to acquire updated knowledge and strategies in the development of language and reading instructional and assessment materials.
Mode of Instruction
All courses are delivered by DE mode.Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree (in Education or in other fields) from a recognized institution.Applicants are admitted provisionally until completion of 9 units during the first year with a general weighted average of 2.0 or better.
The Curriculum
The Diploma consists of a total of 24 units of core courses, major electives, and free electives, which can be completed in two years or four semesters.
