Master of Arts in Nursing
The program is designed to prepare qualified nurses in the Philippines and abroad for clinical specialization and leadership in adult health nursing or maternal and child health nursing. It is intended for professional nurses in various nursing fields, including education, service, administration, community health, research, and private practice.
The program is offered in cooperation with the College of Nursing of UP Manila.
Objectives
The program seeks to:- Increase competence in a major field in nursing;
- Increase understanding of nursing theories, research, principles, methodologies and their applications;
- Develop critical thinking about current problems and issues affecting the nursing profession and the health care delivery system;
- Broaden understanding of a related discipline as a further base for specialization in nursing;
- Develop innovative measures in the delivery of health care services; and
- Develop independent nursing practice.
Mode of Instruction
All courses are delivered by DE mode.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have:
- a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree;
- at least one year work experience as a staff nurse in a hospital or public health agency;
- scholastic ability and potential for profitable study; and
- a valid Professional Regulation Commission license to practice nursing.
Foreign students must submit the following additional requirements:
- certification of financial capability or affidavit of support
- xerox copy of passport (original to be presented for verification)
- proof of license to practice nursing in their country of origin
- TOEFL score of at least 500
- study permit from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS)
The Curriculum
The curriculum consists of 12 units of core courses, 12 units of major courses, and 6 units of electives. Students must also complete a 6-unit thesis.

Electives (6 units)
Students can take electives from the major courses listed in another area of specialization (e.g., if the student is majoring in Maternal and Child Health, she can take electives from the Adult Health Nursing track).
