Master in Social Work

The program is designed for social work practitioners in government and non-government institutions who would like to have advanced formal training in the discipline.

It is offered in cooperation with the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) of UP Diliman.

Objectives

The program aims to:
  • Provide a higher level of competence in direct practice and supervisory tasks to social work practitioners; and
  • Prepare students to assume leadership roles in social administration, clinical practice or community organizing.

Mode of Instruction

All courses except for the practicum are delivered by DE mode.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in social work from a recognized academic institution.
  • Applicants may be required to present themselves for an interview.
  • A certification of English proficiency is required of foreign applicants.

The Curriculum

The program consists of 36 units for the thesis track and 39 units for the non-thesis track.

Students who opt for the thesis track must complete 24 units of core courses and 6 units of major courses, aside from doing a 6-unit thesis.

Students who opt for the non-thesis track must complete 24 units of core courses, 6 units of major courses, and 3 units of electives or social work cognate courses. They must also pass a comprehensive examination.
