Ten Years of Service as UP's Cyber University

This year, the University of the Philippines Open University celebrates ten years of creativity, collaboration, and convergence in alternative teaching and learning.

As 5th Constituent University of the University of the Philippines, UPOU responds to the growing demand for continuing quality education even in areas that do not have a UP campus.

On February 23, 2005, the UPOU dedicated its very own Oblation in front of its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.

New UP President Emerlinda R. Roman presided over the fitting ceremonies that marked the 10th anniversary celebrations.

On hand were patrons, benefactors, partners, and former officials of UPOU who were recognized for the work they have done in making UPOU grow into what it is today.

For the past ten years, over three hundred students have enjoyed scholarships granted by the Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Gov. Leandro Verceles, Jr., Gov. Rodolfo Del Rosario, and Congress Representatives Allen Quimpo, Edgar Lara, Edmundo Reyes, Exequiel Javier, Florencio Abad, Gilberto Quavit, Joaquin Chipeco, Jovito Claudio, Plaridel Abaya, Telesforo Unas, and Senator Francis Pangilinan.

UPOU students are busy people from all walks of life with diverse interests and educational backgrounds. Most are studying part-time, as they pursue careers, take care of businesses, raise children, and meet other obligations. All are committed to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skills through the pursuit of advanced degrees or nonformal short courses. They are independent and mature learners, able and willing to keep pace with the challenges of today's knowledge society. (PH Diaz, FMDS)
