UP Celebrates 96 th Foundation Day
A simultaneous flag raising ceremony throughout all its constituent units marked the 96 th Foundation day of the University of the Philippines on 18 June 2004.
Live links through videoconferencing allowed UP students and personnel from geographically separated units to view each other's activities.
UP President Francisco Nemenzo led the celebration from Quezon Hall in UP Diliman with a live link to UP Los Banos, UP Manila , and the UP Open University headquarters in Laguna. After the simultaneous flag raising ceremonies, cultural presentations of all UP constituent units were viewed.
The celebration was also seen by UP alumni based in various parts of the world via video streaming from the UP System home page. Alumni based in Australia and the US called in to send their greetings.
UPOU Chancellor Felix Librero, in his message, spoke about the successes of the UPOU, highlighting its standing as the Commission on Higher Education's (CHEd) Center of Excellence for Open Learning and Distance Education, and also its being designated as the country's eLearning Competency Center .
The Office of Initiatives for Cultural Affairs of UP Diliman headed the conduct of the celebration in cooperation with the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs, UP Computer Center , and UP System Information Office . Dr. Grace J. Alfonso, Director of UPOU's Multimedia Center directed the production, with support from UPOU-MC staff members and representatives of UP constituent universities.
