UPOU holds writing and editing workshop for DIOs

 

Dr. Paz H. Diaz shares tips on News Writing

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) organized a one-day writing and editing workshop for its designated information officers (DIOs). The workshop aimed to prepare the participants for their functions as DIOs of their respective units. The UPOU Communication Plan as well as the DIOs' respective roles in carrying out the plan were also discussed in the workshop.

Dr. Paz H. Diaz, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies and professor of journalism, conducted the workshop on 16 August 2004 at the UPOU Computer Laboratory, National Computer Center , Diliman, Quezon.

Chancellor Felix Librero said that the DIOs will write news and feature articles that will be sent out to various media establishments and will be posted in the UPOU website. They will be also involved in promotion activities of the university. In addition, the DIOs will also man the UPOU Call Center .

Participants of the workshop were seven DIOs representing the various UPOU offices: Judith Stephanie Garcia of Multimedia Center; Luisa Gelisan of the Office of the Chancellor; Margaret Jarmin of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies; Michael Lagaya of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration; Carmelita Orias of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Joane Serrano of FMDS, and Rhonna Marie Vereña of the Faculty of Education.
