Improved elearning system now online for UPOU students
UPOU students now have access to myPortal.upou.org , a facility that makes online learning easier and more convenient. It has the following features:
- myDesk - a page containing announcements, calendars and a student chat room
- myClassroom - a list of all enrolled courses for the semester, and the discussion boards, workbins, chat rooms and quizzes created by online professors. This is powered by IVLE (Integrated Virtual Learning Environment).
- myEmail - a web-based email facility (name@learner.upou.org)
- myContacts - a directory of all UPOU offices that offer student support services
- Help - a direct link to technical support staff that can now be reached by phone, email, chat or text (SMS)
To access this site, click on the IVLE link from the UPOU home page. Or go directly to http://myportal.upou.org. Continuing students who have bookmarked http://ivle.upou.org will be automatically redirected to the new myPortal site.
All enrolled students need to sign up for a myPortal account.
Continuing students with past accounts still have to sign up to indicate the new courses they are taking this school year.
The online signup form can be found here. The tech support staff will authorize access after verifying student enrollment.
Students with questions about the system are encouraged to contact Technical Support:
- Email (techsupport@upou.org)
- Telephone (02)434-3297 (Manila) or (049)536-6001 to 6006 local 441 (Laguna). Mondays to Fridays 8:00AM-5:00PM
- Text messaging - Key in TEXT TECHSUPPORT [complete name, student number, registered courses, learning center, and your contact information] and send to 700UPOU (7008768) for SMART only. Wait for verification within 24 hrs. (Requests received on Saturdays and Sundays will be replied to on Monday.)
- Chat - Add "myportalhelp" to your list of friends in Yahoo! Messenger or MSN Messenger and catch the techsupport staff online during office hours.
UPOU offers 80 to 90 courses every semester, up to 95% of which are conducted through online tutorials. Over the past four years, the University has relied on the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE), a learning management system that allows faculty members to create course sites and facilitate communication with students. The new myPortal is a system that still uses IVLE as the communication backbone.
However, it has added tools and features that better support students'
elearning needs.
