Chancellor Alfonso keynotes DE congress in Ecuador
Chancellor Grace Javier Alfonso served as keynote speaker in the congress titled “New Challenges in Distance Education and Quality Assurance” held on 21-23 April 2008 in Loja, Ecuador. She represented the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), where the Chancellor sits as member of the Executive Board.
The congress focused on quality assurance and the new challenges for distance education in Ibero-America. Specifically, the congress aimed to define future parameters for quality distance education; to determine the role to be played by distance higher education in the convergence of Europe and Latin America; and to find out more about open educational resources and web 2.0, and their contributions to distance education.
Aside from AAOU, the other institutions that joined the congress were UNESCO, International Council for Open and Distance Education, Pennsylvania State University, the Spanish Distance Education University, National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
