Groundbreaking ceremonies at UPOU

On 20 February 2008, the UPOU held the groundbreaking for two of the important infrastructures that will be constructed in its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. These are the UPOU Centennial Plaza and the UPOU Centennial Center for Digital Learning. The ceremony was led by National Artist Napoleon Abueva, UP President Emerlinda R. Roman, UP Faculty Regent Felix Librero, UPOU Chancellor Grace J. Alfonso, and officials of the university.

The UPOU Centennial Center for Digital Learning will house four facilities that will cater to important academic function of the university. These are the following: 1) the Nerve Center of the UPOU-video-conferencing network; 2) the UPOU Learning Center in the Southern Luzon area; 3) the University's Main Library; and 4) the Museaum/Gallery of Distance Education in the Philippines. On the other hand, the UPOU Centennial Plaza is UPOU's centennial marker. At its center, a sculpture by Napoleon  Abueva will be placed.

The UP Administration, under the leadership of President Emerlinda R. Roman, has provided a start-up fund to commence the development of the infrastructures.
