The University of the Philippines Open University Foundation, Inc., (UPOUFI) is a non-profit, non-stock corporation registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on April 7, 1998 with principal office at UPOU Bldg., College, Los Banos, Laguna .

The principal purpose of UPOUFI is to provide material and moral support to the programs of the U.P. Open University (UPOU).

As the support arm of the University, it engages in the following activities:
           

1. Initiate, conduct and manage research and other projects leading to greater efficiency in the identification of socially relevant instructional programs, and in the development ad delivery of the required learning materials;
2. Publish and distribute or cause to be published and distributed, research outputs and other information related to distance learning and the activities of the UPOU;
3. Cooperate with government or public and private institutions in underwriting, conducting and/or sponsoring projects and/or programs dedicated to the promotion, propagation and enhancement of the programs of the UPOU;
4. Undertake, manage, execute, coordinate or cooperate with any other non-profit institutions and/or research agencies in activities that will promote the interest of the UPOU;
5. Enter into contract with and executive with any person, corporation, partnership or association, governmental or otherwise, any management contract, trust agreement or lawful arrangement for the management and investment of funds of the Corporation, and to secure the consent and approval thereto of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in accordance with its rules and regulations;
6. Give or administer grants and donations of cash, property or service to programs and activities that will redound to the benefit and enhancement of UPOU.

 

UPOUFI is being managed by the Board of Trustees elected among its members.  

The U.P. Board of Regents in its 1122nd Meeting held on July 30, 1998 confirmed the Memorandum of Agreement between the University of the Philippines Open University and the University of the Philippines Open University Foundation, Inc.

As stated in the Agreement, UPOUFI shall assist UPOU in utilizing and expanding its human, financial, material and intellectual property resources in order that UPOU may effectively achieve its mission, vision, and goals in open and distance education.

On the part of UPOU, it will allow the use of its available facilities for UPOUFI activities.  UPOU shall also designate from among its staff such personnel needed for the projects being conducted by UPOUFI.  It shall also assist UPOUFI in establishing relationships with local and foreign organizations/institutions, which may be tapped for joint collaborative projects and special financial grants.
